Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU) was established by an Act of Tamil Nadu Legislature in 2002. TNOU is the first University in the State to have introduced Credit based self-learning
materials in print as early as 2003. The University is one of the five among the 15 open Universities in the Country to have been accorded the recognition under Section 12B of the
University Grants Commission (UGC)
TNOU is the first South Indian University signed MoU with the National Skill Development Council (NSDC) ,New Delhi TNOU is the only Institution in the state which has made all its Vocational Programmes complaint with the Qualification Pack (QP) as National Occupational Standard (NOS). Besides, Govt of India released a GO, recognizing only TNOU to prepare syllabus for all the courses of any Distance Education Programme conducted by any University in Tamil Nadu. TNOU has been offering Computer related Skill Training and Development
Programme for more than a decade in Tamil Nadu, as per TN GO No. 163 dt 23.05.2008 of Higher Education department.
Now, TNOU has designed special Programmes to the School Children in consultation with the subject experts for the purpose to gain knowledge in the IT Sector and Communication Skills.
These Programmes are designed for giving Skill Training to School students starting from fifth to eleventh standard. These Unique programmes are being offered by the Partner Institution identified by the Tamil Nadu Open University (TNOU).
TNOU – PEEP, Parallel Education and Employment Program is yet another program designed with the goal of imparting Employability skills and offering Placement Assistance to under-
graduates thereby creating a healthy ecosystem of academic support which increases the employment opportunities for TNOU students.
